Talo Vaara interior design solutions
Surrounded by beautiful scenery, the site is on a riverbank outside the city’s zoning areas. The architectural starting point was to create a sheltered courtyard that would fit in with the surrounding buildings and traditional countryside scenery but leverage the aesthetics and technological advances of today.
The design capitalised on the plot’s gentle slope by placing the living room a few steps lower than the entrance, providing an impressive view over the river.
The choices of materials grew from the premise of building the entire house from the wood products, non-settling logs, and various panels and beams produced by the customer’s own company. In the interior, the logs and slatted surfaces are treated to be a lighter shade, with the darker hues of the panels adding depth and ambience. The colour scheme also complements the furniture relocated from the previous home, with the dark hues of the ceiling and kitchen enhancing the muted tones of wood and leather.
Details received particular attention in both the design and work phases. For example, the walls appear to flow into the floor with no disruptive mouldings in between – a benefit of using non-settling log.
