House Kokko

The small plot in Muulo, Espoo is bounded by a street to the north, a plot connection to the east and protected bedrock to the west. From these starting points, an elongated house with a narrow frame was designed.

We placed the garage to the north of the plot as a protective wall towards a densely built-up residential area. As an extension to the bedrock, we designed a large terrace, organically following the shapes of the rock.

Following the colours of the surrounding softwood trees, we designed the outer surface to be dark, almost black. Window frames, external structures and indoor furniture are oak coloured. Indoor surfaces are white, offering a contrast to the house’s dark outdoor characteristics.

Large windows open towards the yard. The open rock is connected to the indoor structures through the terrace which flows outdoors almost seamlessly.

The house was built in 2010.
