Sustainable innovations to happy living

15-16 May 2025, Helsinki

The two-day international seminar focusing on wooden construction and architecture will be held in Helsinki, with side events organized around the region surrounding the capital of Finland.

The seminar’s purpose is to compile a current overview of the leading projects in wood construction and wood product research in Finland and elsewhere. The strengths of Finnish development activities are digitality extending from processes to production, and high-quality wood products processed highly innovatively.

The seminar also gathers a comprehensive overview of other internationally interesting themes of Finnish wood construction. Finnish contemporary architecture and design are world-class success products. At the conference, we will highlight the infrastructure of the world’s happiest nation. Its roots are in the forests.

This is a two day event, with first day focusing on seminars and second day on visiting interesting sites and destinations. The language of the event is English.

This new district of Helsinki is being made almost entirely from timber, quite literally taking wooden construction in Finland’s capital to new heights.

Rainer Mahlamäki is a professor and partner at Lahdelma & Mahlamäki. In this video, he talks about the Finnish Nature Centre, Haltia as the first public building built with CLT (cross-laminated timber). CLT makes it possible to build large and tall with wood because it has some of the same qualities as concrete.
