Last spring, Häme University of Applied Sciences (HAMK) received significant funding for its HYBRITUT research project on low-carbon hybrid construction. The project’s partners include Portugal’s University of Coimbra and several leading companies in Finnish hybrid construction, and its goals are to promote low-carbon hybrid construction, build an ecosystem for hybrid structures, and increase international export opportunities for companies in the sector. The research is financed by Business Finland and the non-governmental business partners.

Hybrid construction uses a combination of the typical raw materials of construction to achieve the best possible result. Wood, steel and concrete are used together, and wood plays a central role thanks to its low carbon footprint. Since hybrid construction is new, significant research is still needed to develop, standardise and roll out new solutions.

Project started in March 2023 and lasts to the end of the year 2025.
