Finnish Log types and Basic profiles
Log types are divided up on the basis of their form and content. A log may be solid or laminated. Cross sections may be rectangular or round. Special logs are also available such as non-sink logs and modern thin-jointed logs. All log types are subject to the same shaping principles.
Basic profiles 1
Typical solid planed logs
The surface of a rectangular section log can be given a hewn finish by machine or shaped by hand. Length 95…205 mm Hight 170…220 mm Length, height and cross section of the logs vary according to manufacturer.
Typical round logs
Round logs, as their name suggests, are more or less round in cross section. They can be made by turning on a lathe, or shaped by hand.
Diameter 150…230 mm
Diameter and cross section of the logs vary according to manufacturer.
Basic profiles 2
Typical laminated planed logs
Laminated logs are glued together from two or more wood ‘planks’ with vertical, horizontal or cross joints.
Length 95…205 mm
Hight 170…220 mm
Length, height and cross section of the logs vary according to manufacturer.
Typical laminated round logs
Laminated logs are glued together from two or more wood ‘planks’ with vertical, horizontal or cross joints.
Diameter 150…230 mm
Diameter and cross section of the logs vary according to manufacturer.
Special profiles 1
Non-sink logs
In Non-sink logs some of the laminated components are arranged in a vertical direction so that the sink of the log is kept to a minimum. The height, width and cross section of the logs varies according to manufacturer.
The middle lamellas are arranged in a vertical direction to minimise the settling of the wall.
Length, height and cross section of the logs vary according to manufacturer.
Special profiles 2
Modern log joints
Modern log joints can also be made extremely thin. Length, height and cross section of the logs vary according to manufacturer.
