Design standards

Wood structures are designed in accordance with valid standards and regulations. In the EU and EEA area, structures are dimensioned based on Eurocodes. The Eurocodes are European standards related to the design of load-bearing structures. At the moment, the set of Eurocodes consists of 58 parts. Eurocodes cover principles of determining reliability, and different loads such as payloads, snow loads, wind loads, thermal loads, accident loads and lifting loads. Building materials have their own detailed instructions. Application of the standards in different countries requires the preparation of national annexes (NA).

The design values for wood materials are tested in accordance with harmonised European product standards, based on which the CE marking for wood products is granted. Properties are found in a performance level notice for each product.
